Open Staff
“Open Staff” refers to a structured clinical team meeting in which the patient concerned is present while the multidisciplinary team discusses their case. In child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, team conferences are a central component of treatment. They facilitate professional exchange, deepen clinical understanding, and help coordinate therapeutic and educational interventions.
Our experience has shown that Open Staff meetings are a highly effective therapeutic element. When patients hear how the team reflects on their progress — without the pressure of a traditional one-to-one setting — it often enables a different level of listening, reflection, and acceptance. A key principle of this approach is respectful transparency: all team members communicate in a way that would be appropriate if the person concerned were present.
